The works of the finalists of MMOD contest of object design for mass market will be shown during Design Living Tendency 2019, furniture and interior exhibition, held from the 16th to the 19th of October 2019 in Kyiv.
Last year object designers were for the first time suggested creating items of furniture and lighting that could be defined as “designer” but could be affordable for the widest range of customers. The contest was initiated by MebelOK online store. Kyiv International Contract Fair provided a platform for presentation and discussion of contest works and brought together professional audience and experts.
First, designers offered the jury ca. 50 concepts. 7 ideas were selected from them and were presented as industrial prototypes at the exposition of MMOD contest during KIFF exhibition, held from February 27 to March 2, 2019.
At KIFF platform the contest works could be evaluated not only by the expert jury and international buyers but also by ordinary visitors. Lucio Pellanda, the honorary guest of KIFF 2019, Italian designer and furniture manufacturer, the author of the bestseller “Your customized furniture”, noted high level of the works. Valerii Sukhytskyi, an expert in object design, as well as coryphées of Ukrainian furniture retail Sviatoslav Amelin (MebelOK), Kyrylo Harshyn (Margo) and Taras Kolesnyk (WeLoveMebel) gave some recommendations to the participants. At the exhibition the authors of the works concluded preliminary agreements on supplying of works to DIY stores as well as specialized online stores.
The initiators of the contest managed to unleash real potential of the contest even while organizing the exposition though they hadn’t had an inkling of it at the planning stage. Therefore, on March 2, 2019 the organizers decided to prolong the submission period for contest works which could be manufactured and presented at the autumn exhibition DLT 2019. And in order the authors, who hadn’t worked with mass market segment before, understood the needs of their customers better, a series of seminars were held for them. The peculiarities of mass market needs, nuances of price formation and choice of materials were explained there. As a result, 10 concepts were selected. The visitors of Design Living Tendency 2019 will be able to see implementation of these ideas in industrial prototypes in Exhibition hall 1 of the International Exhibition Centre from the 16th to the 19th of October. We invite everyone interested in creation of a new product for Ukrainian and world furniture markets to become one of the contest’s partners.
